The Verdigris green patina can happen naturally to copper over time (like The Statue of Liberty), though we sped up the process in house, then coated it in clear lacquer to protect the surface. The patina gives the Statue of Liberty its characteristic appearance, but the oxidation of copper can also cause undesirable effects under some circumstances. It oxidizes readily to form a distinctive coating known as patina. Once we use up our excess copper, these will go out of stock until we have enough material saved to make another batch. Patina Is a grey-green surface layer on copper and copper alloys, which consists of basic carbonates and sulfates. Copper is a versatile metal used in thousands of everyday products.
